Base Mouldings
HISTORICAL REFERENCES Trim & Moulding Sizing Notes As a general rule of thumb, Base Mouldings are between 1.5 and 1.75 times larger (in height) than the casing. For example: A 3-1/4” Casing would be proportionate with a 5”-5¼” Base. Crown Mould should be slightly larger (measured in height) than the base, with vaulted, cathedral or ceilings taller than 9’ accommodating even larger crowns. Chair Rail is typically sized the same as your casing. PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS Mouldings are precision milled to order from the finest grade, kiln dried hardwoods. Each orders is stretch wrapped into hand manageable bundles and banded for shipment.

Moulding Sale Terms Why Random Widths and Lengths? The fact that hardwoods are almost always offered in a random width and length assortment can present something of a mystery. Hardwood lumber is cut to yield the highest grade and maximum of usable material while minimizing waste. Both widths and lengths are, therefore, random and even the best grades allow occasional defects. Ordering RANDOM Lengths Unless otherwise stated, all lengths are random and will vary from six to sixteen feet. We process our wood in random lengths and try to cut the longest lengths possible. We also try to match lengths to each molding according to use; typically longer lengths for base and crown moulds and 7' or 8' lengths for standard door casings. Random lengths for particular mouldings are merely considered but not guaranteed. When ordering random lengths, be sure to include additional footage for trimming, fitting and an occasional mistake. Non-stocking millwork orders should always allow extra footage for waste, since shortages cannot be easily filled without additional time and are subject to our minimum order requirements. Ordering PREFERRED Lengths If promptness is important, be sure to ask our staff about the availability of preferred lengths when you place your order. At no additional cost, you may request “preferred” lengths up to 12’ long with your order. We will make every effort to accommodate your request when pulling material to fill your order. However, we are not able to guarantee preferred lengths. Ordering SPECIFIED Lengths Typically, on larger volume orders, with a wide variety of cuts, excellent yield can be expected from random lengths. For smaller orders, it is generally advisable to specify your lengths, especially for jobs that require pieces of similar lengths. If you absolutely must have specific lengths, please be sure to count the actual length of each piece required (do not add lengths together). Please ADD the following SPECIFIED Length Surcharges: Please note that specified 14’ and longer Lengths are subject to limited availability in certain species. We will confirm availability at order placement. ADDITIONAL TRIM & MOULDING SALE TERMS & DISCOUNTS Our mouldings are manufactured to order unless marked as “STOCK”. Stock mouldings are available without per item minimum footage requirements or setup fees. Non-Stock Moulding orders less than 500 lf per item are subject to a $50 setup fee per profile. Prices quoted are for random 6’ thru 16’ lengths. Please reference the above section pertaining to preferred and specified length options. The following discounts apply to minimum footage per profile or combined footage of matching base and casing on the same order: DISCOUNTS: 1,500 lf - LESS 10% · 3,000 lf - LESS 15% Please call for larger volume discounts. Please note that varied sizes of the same profile and matching patterns, as noted, may be combined to achieve discount requirements. Please keep in mind that many of our mouldings may be slightly modified to match an existing pattern. If you are unable to locate a particular item, we can affordably replicate an existing profile with just a sketch or sample trim piece. Please contact us with your special requests. |
