Why Random Widths and Lengths?

Hardwoods are manufactured on a random width basis for the highest grade and yield.

Standard, Select Grade Hardwoods are provided in sorted, Random 8', 10' 12', 14' and 16' lengths.

However, certain species, such as walnut and cherry may also include some 5' and 6' lengths,  as allowed by NHLA specific grade standards.

Lengths longer than 12' carry a premium and may be limited or simply not available in certain species, such as, but not limited to cedar, cherry, hickory, sassafras and walnut.

When ordering hardwoods, it is always more economical to specify the single component or piece  lengths separately instead of adding the footage together.

Please realize that we will provide a variety of random widths, including wider boards with each hit-or-miss lumber order. (S4S boards are already pre-dimensioned). Unless stated otherwise, random widths are natural, non-laminated solid wood.

You are welcome to state "Preferred Lengths" at no additional cost and we will consider your preferences when pulling material for your order, but lengths are not guaranteed.

If you have specific width and/or length requirements, the following surcharges will apply.  Specified lengths requires additional time to requisition and pull  particular length packages to fill a single order. Please feel free to contact us for a quote, along with any applicable surcharges.
